I contacted Champion Chimneys for an inspection of our chimney. They arrived on time and appeared efficient in starting the process. After approx. 15 minutes, we were told there was extensive damage to the chase, furnace flue, and metal chimney liner. They only provided exterior photos, nothing showing the damage they were speaking of. He then told us the cost to repair would be $20,000-30,000. This was this past October, he advised it would be dangerous to use our furnace or wood stove. He then says we can get a 30% discount if we wait until March for them to do the repairs. I don't know what he thought we were going to do for heat over the Winter. I informed them we would be getting other estimates. His response was "Go right ahead I don't care if you get 5 other estimates" no reputable company I will be available now,this is a busy season. " Before Champion had done the inspection we had gotten the chimney inspected the previous Spring, that company told us we needed to replace the crown, liner and flue were in good shape, but do to Covid delays they were unable to complete the work. After Champion, we did get another Company to inspect and they agreed with the first, we needed a new crown, flue and chimney liner were fine. Their total cost $2000.
